Ban Xia Hou Po Tang
Overview
Ban Xia Hou Pu Tang originates from Zhang Zhongjing’s Jin Gui Yao Lue and is a classic formula for promoting Qi circulation, dissipating clumps, redirecting rebellious Qi downward, and transforming phlegm.
Formula Composition
Ban Xia Hou Pu Tang consists of Ban Xia, Hou Po, Fu Ling, Sheng Jiang, and Zi Su Ye.

Traditional Actions and Indications
Traditionally used for the sensation of an obstruction in the throat that cannot be swallowed down or spit out, accompanied by chest oppression, emotional constraint, or nausea, among other manifestations of “plum-pit Qi.” In modern applications, it is also commonly used according to pattern differentiation for certain sensations of a foreign body in the throat and functional throat or gastrointestinal symptoms.
