Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan

Overview

Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan originated from Zhang Zhongjing’s Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet and is also known as Shen Qi Wan. It is a classic formula for warming and tonifying Kidney Yang, transforming Qi, and promoting water metabolism.

Formula Composition

Common ingredients include Rehmannia root, Chinese yam, Cornus fruit, Alisma rhizome, Poria, Moutan peony bark, cinnamon twig, and aconite.

Note: Processing methods and formula proportions may vary among different sources and modern preparations. Refer to the instructions for the actual product.

Traditional Actions and Indications

Traditionally used for manifestations of insufficient Kidney Yang, including soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees, aversion to cold, relatively cold extremities, difficult or frequent urination, and edema. Modern applications often use it as a formula for TCM pattern-differentiation-based management.

Precautions

  • This formula contains aconite. A properly processed preparation must be used; raw aconite must not be used independently, and the dosage must not be increased without authorization.
  • In the event of abnormal reactions such as palpitations, chest tightness, numbness of the lips or limbs, or nausea, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention.
  • Pregnant individuals and those with severe cardiovascular disease or abnormal liver or kidney function must consult a doctor before use.
  • Heart or kidney disease should be ruled out in cases of edema, reduced urination, or other such symptoms; do not simply attempt to “tonify the kidneys” independently.
