Si Ni Tang

Overview

Si Ni Tang originated with Zhang Zhongjing’s Shang Han Lun and is a classic formula for restoring Yang and rescuing from reversal. It is completely different from Si Ni San in composition and uses.

Formula Composition

Si Ni Tang consists of processed aconite, dried ginger, and honey-fried licorice.

Note: Modern preparations must use properly processed aconite. Specific processing methods, dosage, and dosage form should follow the product instructions.

Traditional Actions and Indications

Traditionally used for severe deficiency-cold manifestations such as declining Yang Qi, cold extremities, lethargy, and a faint pulse that appears close to stopping. In modern medicine, these symptoms may indicate shock, hypothermia, or other serious and urgent conditions.

Precautions

  • If serious and urgent manifestations such as altered consciousness, decreased blood pressure, severe weakness, or icy-cold extremities occur, seek emergency care immediately. Do not take Si Ni Tang on your own while waiting for observation.
  • The aconite in the formula carries a clear risk of toxicity. Raw aconite must never be used, and the dosage must not be increased without professional guidance.
  • If numbness of the lips or limbs, nausea, palpitations, or abnormal heart rhythm occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention.
  • Pregnant individuals and those with heart disease or abnormal liver or kidney function must use it under professional guidance.
